🍪Consentio

Cookie banner for WordPress

Comply with GDPR and Google Consent Mode v2 on your WordPress site with a banner that really blocks scripts before consent and won't slow your site down.

What almost nobody tells you: 43% of the web runs on WordPress and most free plugins show the notice but don't block scripts: technically they don't comply with GDPR.

How to install it on WordPress

  1. 1. Create your free banner in the configurator and copy the snippet.
  2. 2. Paste the snippet in the <head> using a header plugin (such as WPCode) or in your child theme's header.php, with high priority so it loads before Google Analytics.
  3. 3. Done! The banner appears and Consent Mode v2 is active automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Is a cookie banner mandatory on WordPress?

Yes. If your WordPress site uses non-essential cookies (analytics, marketing) and gets EU visitors, GDPR requires prior consent. Also, since 2024 Google Consent Mode v2 is required to use Analytics or Ads in the EEA.

Does the WordPress banner slow the site down?

Heavy banners do hurt your Core Web Vitals. Consentio weighs under 8 KB and uses no external dependencies, so it doesn't affect your speed or your SEO.

Does Consentio block scripts before consent on WordPress?

Yes. By marking your third-party scripts with type="text/plain" data-consentio="category", Consentio prevents them from running until the user accepts, which is what GDPR actually requires.
